Terms of service

1. Who we are

2. What we provide

CortexMed provides research writing, editorial and formatting support. There are two services, and both are made to order from a brief you supply:

• Research papers — drafting manuscripts, carrying out literature searches, structuring papers to journal conventions, and preparing references, tables and figure legends.
• Conference presentations — building a slide deck to the time you have been given, with charts drawn from your own data and speaker notes.

Each is revised once after delivery, and each is delivered as two files: the editable original and a PDF. See the delivery policy.

CortexMed is not a medical service. Nothing we produce is clinical advice, a diagnosis, a treatment recommendation or a substitute for your own professional judgement.

3. Who may use it

You must be at least 18 and be a practising clinician, researcher, academic or student acting in a professional capacity. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for everything done through your account.

4. Your obligations

• Give us accurate information in your brief. The quality of the work depends on it.
• De-identify all patient data before sending it. Remove names, hospital numbers and any other identifier.
• Obtain any ethics approval, institutional permission or consent that your study requires. That is your responsibility, not ours.
• Only send us material you have the right to send, and do not ask us to reproduce someone else’s work.
• Comply with the authorship, disclosure and submission rules of your target journal and institution.

5. What we will not do

• We do not fabricate or falsify data, results, patients, references or ethical approvals.
• We do not sit examinations, and we do not produce work to be passed off as your own where doing so breaches your institution’s rules — see section 6 on theses and assessed work.
• We do not write the science for you. We do not choose your research question, design your study, interpret your results on your behalf, or supply conclusions you have not reached.
• We do not guarantee that any journal will accept your paper.
• We do not submit to journals on your behalf and we do not claim authorship.

6. Authorship and academic integrity

You are the author and the presenter. You are responsible for reviewing everything we produce, for verifying the clinical accuracy of it, and for disclosing writing assistance where the journal, your institution or ICMJE guidance requires it. We provide the writing and the design; the intellectual responsibility remains yours.

What we do is editorial assistance: you supply the question, the design, the data and the conclusions, and we express them in the form a journal or a conference expects. We do not supply the science. That distinction is the whole basis on which this service is legitimate, and it is also the line you have to stay on your side of.

Theses, dissertations and assessed work

This needs saying directly, because it is the one place where our service and your obligations can genuinely conflict.

Many universities treat a thesis or dissertation written with external editorial help as academic misconduct, whether or not you disclose it. Rules differ between institutions and between departments, and some that permit language editing still forbid structural or substantive drafting. It is your responsibility — not ours — to read your own institution’s regulations before you commission any assessed work from us, and to obtain your supervisor’s agreement where they require it.

By ordering a thesis or dissertation chapter you confirm that you have checked those rules and that what you are asking us for is permitted under them. We cannot check them for you, and we will not be responsible for a disciplinary or academic consequence that follows from work you were not permitted to commission. If you are not sure, ask your institution first — and if the answer is no, or unclear, do not order it. We would rather lose the work than have you lose a degree.

Where an institution permits editorial help subject to disclosure, you must make that disclosure. We will confirm in writing exactly what we did on your order if you need it for that purpose — ask in the support chat.

7. Orders, pricing and payment

The price of each service is shown on the site and on your order page before you pay, in Indian Rupees: ₹6,500 for a research paper and ₹6,500 for a conference presentation. That figure is the total, charged once per order — it is what leaves your account and there is nothing added to it.

We also issue discount codes from time to time, which you enter at checkout, on the same screen you pay on. Only one code applies to an order, and the screen shows you the resulting price before you pay. A code has to be applied before payment — we cannot apply one retrospectively, though if you closed the payment screen you can still add one from the order page for as long as the order is unpaid. Codes may carry an expiry date, a total limit or a limit per customer, and we may withdraw one at any time; withdrawing a code never changes the price of an order already paid for.

A contract for the work is formed when you complete payment. What that contract covers is the brief you send us on the screen after it — until the brief arrives there is nothing for a writer to start on, which is why we ask for a phone number at checkout. Payments are processed by Razorpay; we never see or store your card or bank details.

8. Delivery and how we communicate

Work is delivered within 1–2 business days of your brief reaching us, or on a date agreed with you in writing for larger pieces. See the delivery policy for the detail.

Everything to do with your paper happens in two places: email, and the support chat inside your account. Both keep a written, timestamped record you can go back to, which is exactly why we use them. Those two channels are the record: a brief, a change of scope, an agreed deadline, a revision request or a refund request is effective when it arrives in one of them, and both timestamp it for you. You are welcome to call us on 04652 227811 during business hours, but a call is a conversation rather than an instruction — anything agreed on one takes effect once it is written back into your support thread or confirmed by email, which we will do.

9. Revisions

One round of revisions is included in the price and must be requested within 14 days of delivery, through the support chat or by email. Revisions cover work that does not match the agreed scope. A change of topic, a new dataset, a different talk length or a substantial expansion is new work and is quoted separately.

10. Refunds

The refunds and cancellation policy forms part of these terms and is the complete and only statement of when a payment can come back. Nothing on this page or elsewhere on the site adds to it or takes away from it — if you find something that appears to, the refunds policy governs. In brief: a refund can be requested within 2 business hours of paying and is considered case by case, and we refund in full if we cannot deliver a paper we were paid for.

11. Intellectual property

On full payment, all rights in the delivered work pass to you — the manuscript, the slide deck, and every file we send you as part of the order. We keep no claim over any of it and will not reuse it. The website itself, and the CortexMed name and branding, remain ours.

12. Confidentiality

We treat everything you send us as confidential and disclose it only to the person writing your paper and to the service providers listed in our privacy policy.

13. Liability

We provide the service with reasonable skill and care. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of any order is limited to the amount you paid for that order. We are not liable for a journal’s rejection of a manuscript, for how a presentation is received, for academic or disciplinary consequences of how you use the work, or for any indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

14. Suspension

We may decline or stop work on any request that asks us to fabricate data, breach academic integrity rules, infringe someone’s rights or break the law. Where we stop work for this reason after payment, section 5 of the refunds policy decides what comes back.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version in force for your order is the one published when you paid. Material changes are announced by email to account holders.

16. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts at Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute. Please raise any complaint with us first — we would rather fix it than litigate it.
