Refunds & cancellation policy
Payment comes first and books the work; the brief you send straight afterwards is what defines it. This explains the narrow circumstances in which that payment can come back, and it is short on purpose.

The short version
- You pay first, then tell us what to write. The brief is the screen after the payment, and nothing is written until it arrives.
- Paying is what books the work. A refund can only be requested within 2 business hours of paying, and each request is judged on where the order has got to.
1. When payment happens
CortexMed is a made-to-order writing service, and the payment comes first. You choose a paper or a presentation, give us a number we can reach you on, and pay. The brief — the topic, the type of work, the journal, anything you have already written — is the screen straight after that, and you can take as long over it as you like.
Paying books the work; the brief defines it. Nothing is written before the brief arrives, so an order that is paid for and not yet briefed is one where we are waiting on you rather than the other way round. That is what the phone number at checkout is for: we would rather ring and ask than let a paid order sit.
It also means the window in section 3 is measured from the payment, because the payment is the one moment in an order that is fixed, timestamped and the same for both of us. A brief can follow ten minutes later or three weeks later; a window anchored to it would be a window that never closes.
2. Once you have paid
Payment books the work. Once your brief is in, a writer is assigned and drafting begins the same working day — that is what the price buys and it is why the turnaround is 1–2 business days. The payment itself is not refundable, other than in the narrow circumstances in sections 3 and 5.
The thing you are buying is the writing itself. Once it has been produced it cannot be handed back, which is why this is not a product with a change-of-mind window in the way a physical purchase is.
3. The 2-business-hour window
If you pay and then realise something is wrong — you meant to order something different, your circumstances changed, you paid for a paper when what you needed was the talk — tell us within 2 business hours of the payment and we will consider a refund.
Business hours are Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM IST. The window counts only during those hours, so a payment made at 4:00 PM leaves one hour that day and one the following working morning. A payment made outside business hours starts its window when we next open.
Requests inside this window are considered case by case, against your order and whatever has passed between us on it. We are not going to pretend otherwise: this is a judgement, not an automatic right. In practice the question we ask is whether work has meaningfully started, which usually turns on whether a brief has reached a writer. Outside the window, section 2 applies.
4. If you never pay
An order you have not paid for is an abandoned checkout and nothing else. It costs nothing, commits you to nothing and is not work we have begun. You can withdraw it from the order page, or simply leave it sitting there. Nothing is charged automatically, ever.
5. If we cannot deliver
If we take payment for a paper and then cannot complete it for a reason on our side — any reason, including a delay of ours that makes the paper no longer useful to you — you get a full refund. This is not discretionary and it is not limited by the window in section 3. It is the one promise that runs the other way, and it is the only one you should need.
This is about failures on our side. An order we cannot start because no brief has reached us is not one of them: nothing has gone wrong at our end and we are still waiting on you, so sections 2 and 3 govern it like any other paid order. Before it comes to that we will ring you on the number you gave at checkout.
If we stop work because a request turns out to breach section 14 of the terms of service — fabricated data, or work we consider academically dishonest — we refund any part of the fee covering work not yet done, and no more.
6. How to request a refund
The window in section 3 is short, so use the fastest channel you have. The support chat inside your account is the one we watch continuously and it timestamps your message, which settles any question about when you asked.
- The support chat inside your CortexMed account — fastest, and timestamped
- Email support@cortexdesk.in
A request has to arrive in writing through one of those two, because the window in section 3 turns on when you asked and both of them record that for you. You are welcome to ring us on 04652 227811 during business hours — but please follow the call with a message or an email, since a call on its own leaves you nothing to point at.
Include your order reference — it looks like CMX-2608-K7P2M and is shown on the order page. We reply to refund requests within the same business day, and to anything sent inside the window in section 3 as quickly as we can pick it up.
7. How refunds are paid
Approved refunds are issued through Razorpay to the original payment method used. We initiate the refund within 3 business days of approving it. Your bank or card issuer then typically takes a further 5–7 business days to credit the amount, which is outside our control. We do not refund to a different account, card or person.
8. Chargebacks
If something has gone wrong, please talk to us first. A payment dispute raised through your bank takes weeks and tells us nothing we could have acted on; a message in the support chat reaches a person the same day. We would always rather resolve it directly, and where this policy gives you a refund you will get it without having to argue for it.
